Volunteer

Volunteering with Nottingham Central Women’s Aid is a meaningful way to make a difference in the lives of women and children escaping domestic abuse.

We offer a variety of volunteering roles, from hands-on support with families to creative and digital projects, so there are many ways to get involved. Whether you can give a few hours a week or share specialist skills, your time and energy will help us provide safety, support, and hope for families who need it most.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please get in touch to request a volunteer or trustee application pack by emailing contact@centralwomensaid.org.

Surplus Food Distributor

Could you help us reduce food waste while supporting women and children in need? We’re looking for volunteers to collect surplus food from local supermarkets and deliver it to families staying in our accommodation. This role makes a direct and practical difference to the women and children we support.

We’re looking for women who are practical, reliable, and passionate about making sure good food doesn’t go to waste. You’ll need to be available for at least 1.5 hours per week to collect, sort, and deliver donations.

Practical considerations

  • You’ll need access to a vehicle that can transport larger amounts of surplus food.

  • We’ll reimburse mileage costs.

  • Support and guidance will be provided.

For an application form, please email contact@centralwomensaid.org with the subject line Volunteer - Surplus Food Distributor.

Online Shop Volunteer

Our online shop is an important way for us to raise unrestricted funds that directly support women and children escaping domestic abuse. By helping us with the shop, you’ll play a part in keeping our vital services running.

We’re looking for volunteers who can give a minimum of 2 hours per week (flexible days and times). You’ll receive training and ongoing support, so you don’t need prior experience—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in.

As a volunteer, you might help with one or more of the following tasks:

  • Collecting and sorting donated items

  • Photographing and uploading products to the shop

  • Supporting with day-to-day shop management and responding to queries

  • Packing and posting items securely to customers

  • Helping to promote the shop and raise awareness online

You can volunteer in-person at our Nottingham base, or remotely if your role involves only the online aspects. For those working in person, we provide a friendly, welcoming environment and cover mileage and out-of-pocket expenses.

Who we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from creative, practical and reliable volunteers who can work independently and bring fresh ideas to the shop.

Practical considerations

  • Location: Nottingham (with options to volunteer remotely)

  • Flexible time commitment: minimum 2 hours per week

  • Full training provided

  • Mileage and expenses covered

Requirements
All volunteers will need to provide references.

To apply, please email contact@centralwomensaid.org with the subject line Volunteer – Online Shop.
