A New Key to Safety

We are delighted to share the news that we have officially taken over the management of Amber House Refuge. After a very busy few days, as well as months of planning this marks an important and positive step forward for our organisation and the expansion of the specialist domestic abuse support and services we provide.

Amber House has a strong history of supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse, and we are pleased to be able to continue building on this vital work with our specialist Women's Aid support. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone connected with Amber House—residents, staff, partners, and supporters—into our organisation. We recognise the dedication, compassion, and expertise that already exists, and we are committed to working collaboratively to ensure continuity, stability, and growth.

This transition represents more than a change in management; it is an opportunity to strengthen and enhance the specialist support available to those who need it most. By bringing together our experience, knowledge, and shared values, we aim to further develop services that are responsive, empowering, and centred around the needs of women and children.

Central Women's Aid has now doubled the accommodation we are able to offer, and is currently the largest provider of Women's Aid refuges in Nottingham City. At any one time we can now house 24 women and up to 48 children and our accommodation includes ground floor units as well as communal and self-contained options to meet different needs.

Our focus remains clear: to provide safe, supportive environments where women and their children can begin to rebuild their lives free from abuse. We are committed to delivering high-quality, specialist domestic abuse support and services that promote safety, independence, and long-term wellbeing. Through close partnership working and a person-centred approach, we will continue striving to ensure that every woman and child receives the trauma-informed support they need—when they need it most.

We are excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings. Together, we hope to make a meaningful difference, working tirelessly until women and children are safe, supported, and able to move forward with confidence and hope for the future.

If you would like to support our ongoing work please consider making a donation to provide extra help and activities for the women and children accessing our support. https://www.centralwomensaid.org/donate
