Local Business XMA Making a Lasting Difference
A Charity Partnership with Central Women's Aid
At Central Women's Aid we have been celebrating the success of our ongoing Charity of the Year partnership with local technology business XMA, which began earlier this year and is already making a significant impact for women and children affected by domestic abuse.
Since choosing Central Women's Aid as its Charity of the Year, colleagues from XMA have been giving their time, skills and enthusiasm to support the charity through monthly volunteering, fundraising and awareness raising.
The team has already committed to a variety of fundraising activities, including workplace raffles, taking on the Ultimate Warrior obstacle challenge and completing a sponsored bike ride. Together, these events are helping to raise vital funds that enable Central Women's Aid to continue providing safe accommodation, specialist support and recovery programmes for women and children rebuilding their lives after abuse.
Alongside fundraising, XMA employees have been volunteering every month, supporting practical projects that enhance refuge accommodation and improve spaces used by families accessing the charity's services.
As part of the partnership, Eva from Central Women's Aid also delivered specialist training to XMA's Mental Health First Aiders, helping them to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and respond appropriately when someone discloses their experiences.
Domestic abuse affects people from every walk of life. It is estimated that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime. As many survivors spend a significant proportion of their time at work, colleagues and managers can play an important role in recognising concerns, responding safely and signposting individuals to specialist support.

The partnership highlights the value of businesses and charities working together. While fundraising provides essential income to sustain specialist services, volunteering brings practical support, and workplace education helps create environments where survivors feel safer to seek help.
With several fundraising events still to come, the partnership continues to grow, demonstrating how local businesses can make a meaningful and lasting contribution to ending domestic abuse and supporting survivors to rebuild their lives.
